EYEDROPPER FILLING PENS

Eyedropper (ED) pens are filled by  introducing ink directly into the barrel of the fountain pen. As shown in the pictures below, most EDs unscrew at the gripping section, and ink is then poured into the barrel with an eyedropper.

Instructions for Filling and Priming an Eyedropper Pen

When filling a pen for the first time, or when changing inks:

1. Thoroughly rinse out and dry the barrel and section of the pen.

2. Apply silicone grease to the section threads (this will ensure that ink will not escape from the threaded joint of the pen). Screw and unscrew the section several times to let the silicone grease spread and penetrate.

3. Hold the barrel of the pen vertically, with the opening pointing up. Using an eyedropper or a syringe, fill the barrel with ink up to the level of the threads

4. Continuing to hold the barrel in this position, screw in the section halfway.

5. Flip the pen over, nib pointing down into the mouth of an open ink bottle, and screw in the section fully. Some ink should drip into the bottle, as excess air in the barrel forces ink out through the feed. This will prime the feed, making the pen ready to write.

6. Tighten the section fully and wipe the nib to remove any excess ink. The pen is ready to write!

For subsequent fillings with the same color ink:

Follow steps 3-6 only; it is not necessary to rinse the pen prior to filling or to apply silicone grease every time.

Is an Eye Dropper filling pen the right choice for me?

Only you can decide whether an ED filling pen is a good choice for you. The benefits of ED pens include enormous ink capacity, a lack of filling mechanisms that can potentially break down, not needing to dip the nib and section of the pen into ink, cutting down on post-fill cleanup, and the joy of experiencing traditional filling practices.

On the other hand, those who switch inks frequently, are short on time, and have no desire to fuss with an eyedropper, may be better off with self-filling systems. Most of our Indian pens are available as Cartridge/converter fillers, and we are happy to offer you this option.
